Pulmonary Function Technician Training (009)

The OSHA Cotton Dust Standard (29CFR1910.1043) states: Persons other than licensed physicians who administer the pulmonary function testing required by this section shall have completed a NIOSH-Approved training course in spirometry. This course meets the requirements set forth by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

Course topics:

Flow versus volume spirometers (ATS Standards)
Practicum in performing and calculating test results.
Coaching technique and recognizing common errors.
Recognize normal, obstructive and restrictive patterns in spirometry.
Calibration procedures.
Record keeping requirements.

The instructors have extensive experience in Occupational Health, particularly in Respiratory Surveillance programs.

Materials Provided
Attendees will be provided a copy of course materials.

NOTE: Please bring copies of sample tracings of your pulmonary tests to review in the class.

Course Length and Time
2 days (8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. )
